Welcome to The Psychology of Symptoms

It is with great sadness that we would like to inform you that Douglas Brady, M.Ed, has transitioned to the spirit world. He died on August 11th while hiking near his home in Healdsburg, California. His death was sudden and unexpected, due to complications from a previous heart condition. Douglas had a deep connection with nature and it is there that he took his final breath.

Douglas’ life was far too short for all who knew and loved him, and yet there is a peacefulness that exists with the knowledge that he lived his life deeply connected to his soul’s mission. He dedicated his life to helping so many people heal the obstacles that prevented them from living fully and authentically. This gave him great joy and fulfillment. His compassion, integrity, and extraordinary wisdom were guiding and healing forces for so many. His absence will be keenly felt by all of us.

He returned home at the moment his soul chose, and now he has a vantage point that can only truly be understood from that space. He left this world with a sense of deep fulfillment, knowing he was loved and that his work was appreciated. He was in love with the Divine and felt that connection everywhere and in everyone. His last breath was in nature, surrounded by the beauty that nurtured him in so many ways…and in the arms of his beloved. He passed to the next world with grace and beauty all around him. It happened quickly and thankfully he did not suffer.

Let us honor his memory by living our own lives with the courage and conviction that he modeled so elegantly for us. His immense love lives on in the hearts of each of us.

Memorial gatherings have been held in Northern California, Massachusetts, Colorado, Connecticut, and New Jersey by his vast community of friends, family and clients. Services are being planned for Santa Barbara and Maui. For more information about these gatherings, please see his Facebook page for updates: http://www.facebook.com/douglas.brady2.

For those who would like continued therapeutic assistance and support, there is an extensive list of therapists and healing practitioners that Douglas personally knew and respected on the Resources page of this website. You can call or email any of these therapists and healing practitioners for more information, and contact info can be found on their respective websites. Some work in person, and some also by phone or Skype.

The Psychology of Symptoms is an integrative Body Mind Approach that synthesizes, Interactive Guided Imagery, Somatic Experiencing, Voice Dialogue, Laughter, Hope, and New Possibility. Intuitively I will guide you to discovering a new way of Being that embodies forgotten parts of yourself and leaves you empowered in your experience of creating a body and mind that are free from disease.

Modern medicine has confirmed what I have intuitively known for decades. The Body and the Mind are inseparable. Our repressed emotions, our early childhood survival strategies, our fears, disappointments, grief, and anger all have a direct and profound effect on our physiology and subsequently on our immune system and our health.

“Sometimes the function of illness is deeper than having something wrong and getting rid of it. To catch a glimpse of the forces of the psyche and the unconscious motivation behind the illness can be astounding”.

— Brugh Joy, M.D.
